The Golden Age Ensemble

The Golden Age Ensemble is a duo featuring accomplished entertainers Harry Bernstein and William Severson. In an effort to share their love of music with others, they have given many concerts and performed at facilities on concert series and for seniors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Messrs. Bernstein and Severson both sing and play the piano. Mr. Bernstein also plays soprano and alto flute. They combine their talents in solos and duets of all kinds, including songs from musical comedies and other favorite songs from approximately 1900-1960. Their repertoire also includes melodies from around the world, folk songs, sacred music, opera, classical music and novelty numbers. Many audiences enjoy singing along with these entertainers; they learn to expect the unexpected.

Both of these entertainers are available for solo concerts. Mr. Severson sings and accompanies himself on the piano. Mr. Bernstein alternates between singing at the piano and playing a variety of flutes.

Every audience is different. That is why the Golden Age Ensemble tries to tailor programs to suit the preferences of each audience. Our programming is flexible, which means that one program may consist of songs from Broadway shows, another of songs from the 20s and 30s plus some more nostalgic selections and sing-along tunes while a third program could be a classical concert. Most programs offer a mixture of many styles. Programs are often centered around themes, such as seasons, holidays and other special occasions.

Our fees vary, depending on program length, travel time and other factors. When you ask for a rate sheet, ask about ways to get discounts when you schedule your performances.

We give over one hundred concerts a year.

Repertoire

We play a wide range of music and are classically trained. We play musicals and standards from 1880 to the present in addition to classical music. We specialize in the music of the 1900's to 1960's and occasionally do our own compositions and arrangements.
